University of Alaska Development of Carbon Offset Credit Program RFP
The University of Alaska Land Management team has issued an RFP for a carbon credit developer, the next step in the process of creating a carbon credit program. This exciting project could result in decades of sustainable revenue for the University. The deadline for submissions is May 17, 2023. Parties interested in submitting a proposal in response to the RFP must do so through the University's bonfire portal ().
In December 2022, the University Land Management team issued a public notice (), for approximately 21,000 acres of landholdings, with 92 percent of the respondents expressing support for the program.
During the due diligence process, the developer may determine that one or more parcels identified in the public notice are not suited for carbon offset credits. In that case, the parcel will be removed from the program; however, the public notice will remain in effect on the parcel. The developer may recommend additional lands for inclusion into the program. In that case, any additional lands will have a public notice in a similar process as this one. We will continue to communicate any changes to communities with carbon credit parcels.
For the last several years, the University has been following the carbon credit market
and investigating the possibility of creating a program for the University landholdings
as an alternative way to diversify the overall portfolio.
