University of Alaska Interim President Pat Pitney presented to the Southeast Conference this week, outlining UA鈥檚 successes over the last year and goals for the future.
Introduced by University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Karen Carey Wednesday afternoon, Pitney outlined areas of success amidst budget constraints and the COVID-19 pandemic -- highlighting critical steps the university has taken to reach a point of budget stability for students, staff, faculty and critical programs and ongoing strategies for the university to lead the state in economic growth and workforce development in a post-covid world.
Directly related to important research being performed in Southeast Alaska, the University of Alaska has taken steps in incorporating mariculture programs into its offerings as a way to bolster research endeavors in the emerging field of study. Additionally UAS offers marine and maritime training to meet workforce demands in Southeast Alaska.
As the state and federally designated regional economic development organization for Southeast Alaska, Southeast Conference serves as the collective voice for advancing the region鈥檚 economy. Southeast Conference has 180 member organizations representing 1,200 people from 32 regional communities. The mission of the Southeast Conference is to undertake and support activities that promote strong economies, healthy communities and a quality environment in Southeast Alaska.
