UAA hosts Arctic Showcase
On June 28, UAA hosted an Arctic Showcase for the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±appArctic Leadership Steering Committee.
The committee members enjoyed tours, conversations, and empowering presentations from
some of UAA's brightest leaders.
The group was welcomed by Chancellor Sean Parnell. Vice Chancellor for Research Aaron
Dotson hosted the presentations. The first half centered around growing Alaska's workforce
and circumpolar health solutions. The second half of the day was spent discussing
security and natural resources as well as economy and policy solutions.
On the significance of the event, Aaron Dotson said, "While working directly in the Arctic provides a benefit, this event illustrated that
those empowered with Arctic knowledge/skills gained at UAA will shape the Arctic future
from Anchorage, Juneau, or places outside Alaska such as Washington, DC."
This external committee is the guiding force behind the Arctic Leadership Initiative
- a top priority of President Pat Pitney in her 2023 strategic vision. The committee
is working with university experts to:
- Position Alaskans as world leaders in Arctic issues
- Amplify Alaska Native voices in national and international Arctic policy development
- Elevate Alaskans as the creators of our future in the global Arctic
- Establish University of Alaska’s universities as a center of Arctic expertise – among Alaskans and throughout the world
