2021 Holiday Schedule
The University of Alaska observes 12 paid holidays a year:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Celebration of Alaska Civil Rights
- Friday of Spring Break
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday
- Christmas Day
- The day before or after New Year's, Independence Day, and Christmas are also observed as holidays
This year these paid holidays fall on the following dates:
- Jan. 18 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Celebration of Alaska Civil Rights
- March 12 - Friday before Spring Break
- May 31 - Memorial Day
- July 5-6 - Holidays following Independence Day
- Sept. 6 - Labor Day
- Nov. 25-26 - Thanksgiving
- Dec. 23-24 - Days leading up to Christmas
The University observes a hard closure during the three days from Christmas to New Year's. Employees will need to use Annual Leave, Faculty Time Off, Personal Holiday, and/or Leave Without Pay during those three days. Leave Without Pay must be approved by the employee's supervisor.
