Did you know that every semester University of Alaska Southeast accounting program students intern with companies and firms across the region to gain valuable career experience?
These internships allow students to understand the daily operations that are part of working in accounting and provide a resum茅 boost that results in fast hire after graduation. Many students end up receiving job offers from firms they intern with.
These internships range from a fishing and hunting license processing job with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to work with the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation. Julie Hamilton, an associate professor in UAS Accounting, said the program has become so successful that companies and firms often reach out asking for student interns.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a great partnership that provides real world experience for our students,鈥 Hamilton said. 鈥淎ccounting is such a broad field so this opportunity really helps students hone in on what element of accounting they hope to focus on in their career.鈥
Since 2016, the UAS accounting program has awarded more than 400 degrees and certificates.
