'Drop! Cover! Hold on!' during an earthquake
July 30, 2021
The magnitude 8.2 earthquake off the coast of the Alaska Peninsula this week has served as an opportunity to think about what we should do if such an event happened wherever we are. In the case of an earthquake, remember to 鈥淒rop! Cover! Hold on!鈥 鈥 which means we should drop to the floor, duck under a sturdy piece of furniture if possible, and hold on to that desk or table as it moves. If you are near the coast during a large earthquake, don鈥檛 wait for tsunami sirens before making your way to higher ground and checking for official updates.
